Just finished reading Phil Harrington's "Touring the Universe Through Binoculars". This is a must have for anyone who enjoys observing with binos. After a few chapters on the Moon, Planets, Sun, etc. he covers DSO's by constellation. For each constellation he lists those items that can be seen with binos and then gives detailed descriptions of the better objects. At the end he gives some tips on purchasing binoculars, mounting them, and maintaining them. One interesting tip in the book (and one I never would have thought of) concerns blocking out light tresspass. He recomends taking swimming goggles and cutting the front of the lense out, then painting the sides black. Sounds like an absolutely brilliant idea, can't wait to try it.
This book will be with me every time I go out with the binos.

Great review..and it sounds like a great book to have in the astro-library.....
![]() Since I've been spending much more time with the bino's than with the scope, this should be an excellent reference to have available. Found a copy on eBay for $9...should be here in a week.. Mike

Thanks, Dizz, I need to get that one, as much as I enjoy my binos. I always liked him.

Speaking of good books... I don't know how many of you good folk in the U.S have this but the Backyard Astronomers Guide by Dickinson & Dyer (now in 3rd edition) is really superb all-round reference book and beautifully produced
