Within this Nebula was a large bright star that appeared yellow in colour. It really stood out. It appeared to be surrounded by blacked out areas, which in turn were surrounded by what appeared to be a large area of Nebulosity. Was this yellow looking large star (compared to the others in the FOV of my 13mm EP) (115x Mag) Eta Carinae?? Can anyone help me with the Catalogue Number for the Eta Carinae, so that I can make a positive ID?? I use Stellarium to ID Stars and to attempt to find my way around. Does Stellarium show Eta Carinae by HIP number??

Had a new question for you fellas. (bet ya thought I just up and vanished by now didn't ya? LOL)

I was outside observing with just my naked eye and I saw something weird. I was looking at Virgo, near Spica about 10:21pm EST when I saw what I thought was a very bright star almost right next to Spica. I had just gotten outside and was still trying to get my bearings when I saw that the object in question was extremely bright, and I mean bright like Venus bright. And as I watched, I noticed it was moving on a northward course away from Spica. But, as it moved further away I came to the conclusion that it was either a plane or a satellite. No big deal. But, and you knew there was going to be a but, as it moved further away from Spica, the light from the star dimmed until it finally vanished completely. Using my hand as a measuring guide, if held straight up away from you, the distance was from the tip of my thumb to the tip of my index finger. And when I say it got dimmer, I mean it was like watching a flashlight bulb go dead from dead batteries.


Now I am fairly certain what I saw wasn't a UFO and I am in no way claiming it is. But I am drawing a blank on what it could have been. A plane tilting and changing course, a satellite, a meteor (I am under the impression a meteor is not very likely since they usually streak across the sky and have a light tail behind them and neither occured in this instance.)

Have any of you guys experienced this in your observations? Did you ever find out what it was?
